Huancayo    Evening glassoff over Rio Mantaro                                                                                                          Landing above Chupuro

Closer to Lima, buses climb the 4876 meter Ticlio Pass (over 16,000 feet!) on their way to the  broad and fertile Rio Mantaro valley.   Above the city of Huancayo are sites which offer both  thermic mid day cross country flying, and spectacular evening glass off above the Peruvian  countryside.   The Peruvian Paragliding Nationals are held in this area for obvious reasons.    While the sites are still high, there are lower launches relative to the height of the Andes, (only  13,000 feet) so acclimatization is quicker and somewhat easier than in the Callejon de Huaylas.
